The licensing inspector conducted a self-reported unannounced other inspection on 02/14/2020. Staff were interviewed and documentation obtained regarding the report of a staff member using a forbidden action towards a child in care. There was a violation resulting from this reported incident and subsequent inspection. Thank you for your cooperation.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-410-1 Description: Based on interviews with staff the facility failed to ensure that staff did not use a forbidden action of striking a child for behavior guidance.
Evidence:
Based on staff interview and related documentation obtained on 02/14/2020, it was determined that staff #1 popped child #1, 2 year old, on the bottom while he was playing outside at approximately 3:40 pm on 02/11/2020. Staff #2 stated in writing and during the interview that she "saw staff #1 pop child #1 on the bottom " and heard her say to the child "didn't they tell you to keep your ass out of the water"?Plan of Correction: The staff member was terminated. All staff will sit down with cooperate staff to review and re-sign the Zero Tolerance policy form and review the expectations of appropriate behavior guidance and interactions with children. Also, all staff will be reminded during this sit down of the consequences of not following the signed form.
