The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced renewal inspection from 9:30 am - 12:15 pm. There were twenty eight preschool children in care: sixteen children with two staff in classroom #1 and twelve children with two staff in classroom #2. The children were observed playing in the centers, in small group activities, at circle time and preparing for lunch. Four staff's records and five children's records were reviewed. Violations from the previous inspection were also reviewed and one was repeated. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on observation, the center failed to maintain the resilient surfacing on the playground at the required depth of at least 6 inches.
Evidence:
1. The inspector observed the playground and measured the resilient surfacing (pea gravel). There was approximately 3 to 4 inches of resilient surfacing surrounding the mats and in the fall zones around the climber. The fall height of the climber is approximately 44 inches.Plan of Correction: The teacher will complete a work order to request additional pea gravels to be added in these areas on the playground. Staff will rake the pea gravels as needed to ensure the resilient surfacing remains at the required depth.
