An unannounced renewal licensing inspection was conducted today.
Children were eating breakfast, playing in the gym, writing, singing and reading stories.
Medications, previous violations, six staff records and five children's records were reviewed.
There were 38 children in care with seven teaching staff, one administrative staff member, and one kitchen staff person.
The large center playground was not evaluated for compliance as you reported that two dead trees were removed and the playground has not been used. Equipment will be removed or repaired before it can be used again.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on a review of staff files, the facility failed to ensure that all staff have completed orientation training.
Evidence:
1. There is no documentation of orientation on file for staff #1-5.Plan of Correction: The director will ensure that all staff orientation training is documented.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on a tour of the outdoor play area, the facility failed to ensure that all areas are safe.
Evidence:
1. On the two year olds' playground there is approximately four inches of water standing in a sandbox.Plan of Correction: The director emptied the water from the sandbox and staff will be reminded to empty any standing water.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A Description: Based on observation of the diapering routine, the facility failed to ensure that staff wash their hands before and after each diaper change.
Evidence:
1. Staff #4 and 5 did not wash their hands before and after each diaper change.
2. Staff #4 did not change gloves between each diaper change.Plan of Correction: The director will ensure that all staff are retrained on proper hand washing techniques.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B Description: Based on observation of the diapering routine, the facility failed to ensure that all diapering procedures are followed.
Evidence:
1. Soapy water was not used to clean the diapering surface before and after each diaper change.Plan of Correction: The director will ensure that all staff are retrained on proper diapering techniques.
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3 Description: Based on the review of six staff files, the facility failed to ensure that all staff complete the required background checks.
Evidence:
1. Staff #2 reported having lived in other states within the last five years. There are no out of state background checks on file for staff #2.Plan of Correction: The director will ensure that the out of state background checks are completed for each staff who has lived out of state in the last five years.
