Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 between 8:40 am to 12:00 pm to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The children in care were observed by the licensing inspector in the various classroom settings. The census for today's inspection consisted of 68 children. The licensing inspector completed observations of the children participating in a variety of activities to include participating in circle time Dr. Seuss reading, working on the letter V, engaged in interactive song and table activity, sleeping in cribs, feedings by staff, engaged in active play on carpet, and playing at the outdoor playground area. The licensing inspector also completed observations of some parent drop offs. The first aid kit and emergency supplies, posted emergency contacts, fire and shelter-in-place drills were reviewed by the inspector. During this inspection, there were five children's records and five staff's records reviewed by the inspector. Description: Based on observation and interview with staff, the center did not ensure individuals from independent contractors who do not meet staff qualification shall, when in the presence of children, be within sight and sound supervision of a staff member.

Evidence: There was observations at the center of a group of children participating in an activity provided by an independent contractor not within sight and sound supervision of a staff member. Interview with staff confirmed the independent contractor role and practices of the center not being within sight and sound supervision.

Plan of Correction: The center will always have a teacher or manager in the class.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation at the center, the center did not ensure to maintain all areas and equipment of the center in a clean, safe and operable condition.

Evidence: During observation at the center, there was a multi color cushion located in the Old Toddlers classroom with expose foam in multiple areas.

Plan of Correction: The center will discharge from cushion today.
