Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A renewal inspection was initiated on 7/9/20 and concluded on 7/10/20. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 46 children present and four staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed four children?s records and four staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Please complete the "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" areas on the Violation Notice for each violation cited and return to me by close of business on 7/17/20. Plans of correction should include steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard, and measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again.

If you have questions regarding this inspection you may contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@dss.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3
Description: Based on review of staff records and interview with the Director, the center did not obtain the results of a search of the central registry for another state in which an employee lived in the previous five years or followed up on the search within 45 days after request to search. Evidence: 1. The central registry search for North Carolina on file for staff A was dated 10/25/17 but did not contain the results of the search. 2. The Director stated that they did not have the results of the search or documentation that the search was followed up on within 45 days.

Plan of Correction: The center has central registry from VA, SC, and GA as well as required fingerprints. The NC central registry form was submitted, but was never received back from the state. A call was placed to NC Department of Social Services to follow up on the central registry on Friday, July 10, 2020; however, due to COVID-19, offices are closed. The central registry search for NC was mailed again on July 13, 2020.
