Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on and concluded on July 17, 2020. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 66 children present and 14 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-B
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure there was a leakproof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the staff member's hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.
Evidence:
In the 2 year-old room the foot operated diaper pail was broken and had to be opened by hand.

Plan of Correction: The following plan of correction was provided by the director during the exit interview:
The diaper pail will be fixed so the foot operation work or it will be replaced.
