Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was completed on August 27, 2020. The provider was contacted by telephone (video call) to initiate the inspection. There were 21 children present and in the care of seven staff members with two additional staff members available for emergencies. The inspector was able to view all required documentation. Three staff records and three children's records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined a non-compliance with applicable standards or law and the violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on review of records and verification from the director, the center failed to implement a monthly evacuation drill for two months.

Evidence:
1. The record of evacuation drills for the year did not contain documentation of a drill being completed in the month of June 2020 or in the month of July 2020.
2. The director confirmed that when the center reopened due to COVID in June, she forgot to conduct evacuation drills with the children for the months of June and July.

Plan of Correction: The director will ensure that evacuation drills are conducted at least once a month.
