Standard #: 22VAC40-185-400-A Complaint related: No Description: Based upon interviews, the facility has not ensured that in order to promote each child's physical, intellectual, emotional, and social well-being and growth, staff interact with the child to provide needed help, comfort and support that encourages decision making and promotes ways of getting along.
Evidence:
Interviews confirmed that in response to three year old child 1's throwing a shoe at staff 1, staff 1 threw the child's shoe into the trash receptacle.Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following:
Staff # 1 is a long time staff member who has exhibited patience and devotion to the children in her care.
On this particular day Child # 1 threw a shoe at Staff # 1 for no apparent reason hitting the staff member.
Staff # 1 placed the shoe in a near by trash receptacle that had no other contents in it as a way of showing the child that the throwing of shoes at any person was inappropriate.
After the Center Director, the Parents and Staff # 1 had a meeting, Staff # 1 acknowledges that her actions could have been viewed as inappropriate and she has been retrained in appropriate actions.
The Center has confidence in Staff # 1 and is certain that no similar incident will take place again.
