Technical Assistance:
The required timing of tuberculosis screenings for newly hired employees was discussed. The subsidy agreement requires that new staff have obtained a tuberculosis screening within the 30 days PRIOR TO employ. The new employee must have the negative results of a tuberculosis screening PRIOR TO any contact with the children.
Leniency is afforded only to those facilities whose capacity has been increased to accommodate the children of essential personnel due to state of emergency, thus requiring facilities to hire additional employees very quickly to meet the needs of the increased capacity.

If an employee is having difficulty obtaining a tuberculosis screening due to the pandemic, all efforts to obtain the screening must be documented in detail in the employee's record.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A subsidy health and safety inspection was initiated on 02/22/2021 and concluded on 02/25/2021. The director was contacted by email to initiate the inspection. There were 27 children present and 5 staff. A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy regulations that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection.
The information gathered during the inspection determined no violations with applicable subsidy regulations. No violations were issued.
