This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 5/26/2021 and concluded on 5/26/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 36 children present and 6 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 1 staff record submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on review of one staff record, the facility failed to have documentation of two references as to character and reputation as well as competency, checked before employment. Evidence: there were no documented references on file for Staff A. Plan of Correction: Center director will contact and document two references for Staff A.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A Description: Based on review of two emergency medications, the facility failed to have written parental authorization to administer two medications. Evidence: the short term medication authorizations signed by the parent for two emergency medications for Child 1 expired 4/24/2021. Plan of Correction: The center director will request a new medication authorization from the parent.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D Description: Based on review of emergency drill log and staff interview, the facility has not conducted the minimum of two shelter in place drills in the past 12 months. Evidence: the last shelter in place drill was conducted 4/14/2020. Plan of Correction: Center staff will conduct a shelter in place drill this month.
