Comments:

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia. A monitoring inspection was initiated on 6/9/21 and concluded on 6/17/21. The center director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 64 children present and 12 staff. The inspector emailed the administrator a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 4 children's records and 4 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Description:	Based on record review and interview, the center did not ensure that a copy of the results of a sex offender registry check and a search of the child abuse and neglect registry is obtained from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years. Evidence: 1. Staff 1 has a hire date of 1/18/21. Staff 1 indicated on her sworn statement or affirmation that she has resided in the states of California and Texas within the past five years. The results of a sex offender registry check were not available for staff 1 from the state of California. 2. Staff 2 has a hire date of 3/22/21. Staff 2 indicated on her sworn statement or affirmation that she has resided in the state of Connecticut within the past five years. The results of a child abuse and neglect registry check were not available for staff 1 from the state of Connecticut. 3. The center director confirmed that all of the required out-of-state background checks were not completed for staff 1 and staff 2.
Plan of Correction:	The center responded with the following: The sex offender registry check for staff 1 from the state of California has been completed. The child abuse and neglect registry search for staff 2 from the state of Connecticut was requested; however, the results have not been received and the center did not follow up on the search request within 45 days. The center director will follow-up on the search request for staff 2 and a new search request will be completed if necessary.
