This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.
A renewal inspection was initiated on July 28, 2021 and concluded on July 28, 2021. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 17 children present, ranging in ages from 11 months to two years, with five staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of three child records and three staff records were reviewed along with the records of three board officer/agents.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-4 Description: Based on review of the staff records and interview, the facility did not obtain an interstate criminal history name check prior to hire for staff who lived outside the State of Virginia in the last five years.
Evidence:
1. The record of staff #2, hired 04/12/2021, indicated staff #2 had lived outside the State of Virginia in the past five years. There was no documentation of an interstate criminal history name check on file.
2. The administrator stated an interstate criminal history name check had not been requested for staff #2 as of 07/28/2021.Plan of Correction: Per the administrator: A request for the criminal history name check will be sent off today. Going forward I will review with the other administrator the requirements regarding out of state backgrounds checks to ensure they are completed in the required timeframes.
