This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on July 28, 2021 and concluded on July28, 2021. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 84 children present, ranging in ages from 3 months to 12 years, with 13 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and the violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-4 Description: Based on review of five staff records and verification from the director, the center failed to obtain an out-of-state background check for one staff member.
Evidence:
1. The record for Staff Member #3 did not contain a completed search of the child abuse and neglect registry for the state in which the staff member resided before moving to Virginia within the last five years. The date of hire for Staff Member #3 was 05/19/2021.
2. The director confirmed that the out-of-state search of the child abuse and neglect registry had not been completed for Staff Member #3.Plan of Correction: The director sent off for the out-of-state search of the registry immediately and will follow up if she has not received a response within 45 days. In the future, the director will send for any out-of-state background searches of the registry as soon as the staff member is hired.
