The new standard became effective on October 13, 2021, but the facility has not yet fully complied with the new requirements.8 The center demonstrated compliance related to the installation of a carbon monoxide detector.
Technical assistance was offered regarding: new regulations; staff records; storage of hand sanitizers.

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.
A renewal inspection was initiated and concluded on 10/19/21. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 23 children present with 4 staff supervising. The children were observed playing on the playground, engaged in small group activities with curriculum related materials and getting ready for lunch. Currently, the children are required to bring lunch and snack from home, which were observed to be labeled. 4 staff records, 3 children's records, children's medications and emergency drill records were reviewed.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on records review, the center did not obtain complete documentation of two or more reference checks for employees before the first day of employment.
Evidence:
1. Staff # 1?s hire date was 9/15/21. Two reference checks were not obtained for Staff # 1.
2. Staff # 2?s hire date was 9/13/21. Staff # 2?s reference checks were missing the signatures and information for the person completing the checks.
3. Staff # 3?s hire date was 8/25/21. There were no documented results of two reference checks for Staff # 3.
4. Staff # 4?s hired date was 8/23/21. There were no documented results of one of two reference checks for Staff # 4.Plan of Correction: For all future reference checks, we will make sure to add the date and signature of each reference called. The licensing inspector offered a document for us to use for all required information.
