22.1 Early Childhood Care and Education

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on January 24, 2022 and concluded on January 25, 2022. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 66 children present, ranging in ages from two years to six years of age, with nine staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of six child records and eight staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A-8 Description: Based on a review of medications, the center failed to obtain a written allergy care plan for children diagnosed with a food allergy.
Evidence:
1. Child 1M, 2M, and 3M had emergency medications on site due to an allergy with food. There was no documentation of a written allergy plan on file for all three children.
2. Staff verified that there was not a written allergy plan on file for the three children.Plan of Correction: Administration were unaware of the new requirement to have a written allergy plan for children with allergies to food. Parents will be notified and request an allergy plan be completed for each child.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-G Description: Based on review of medications, the center failed to ensure that a medication was labeled with the dosage amount.
Evidence:
1. There was an emergency medication on site for Child 2M. The medication was not labeled with the dosage amount.
2. Staff verified that the medication was not labeled with the dosage amount.Plan of Correction: Staff immediately labeled the medication with the dosage amount. In the future all medication will be reviewed at intake to ensure all required information is obtained.
