Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on October 8, 2022 and concluded on October 12, 2022. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 19 children present, ranging in ages from 19 months to four years, with five staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of three child records and three staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-540-C
Description: Based on observation and interview, the center did not ensure the first aid kit contained all the required items.

Evidence:

The first aid kit did not contain an antiseptic cleaning solution/pads as required. The director stated she didn't think they could be used an therefore did not have any on site.

Plan of Correction: Per the director: I will restock the first aid kit with antiseptic pads.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-G
Description: Based on observation and interview, the center did not ensure when food is brought from home, the food container is sealed and clearly dated and labeled in a way that identifies the owner.

Evidence:

1. The lunch boxes in the preschool class and the two year old classroom were not labeled with the date and multiple lunchboxes did not have a name.
2. The director stated that the lunch boxes were not labeled with the date and some did not have the name of the owner.

Plan of Correction: Per the Director: I will have staff label each lunchbox with tape that has the name and date listed.
