22.1 EARLYCHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection took place on-site on 02/22/2022. There were 32 children, ages 2 years-5years, and 6 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, staff qualifications and trainings, staffing and supervision, physical plant, programs, emergencies and nutrition. The children were observed during learning time, free choice activities, hand washing and lunch. A total of 5 children?s records, 5 staff records, and 3 Manager Records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation and discussion with staff, the center failed to ensure that the areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.

Evidence:
1. The floors of the 2-2 ? year old classroom were littered with pieces of paper/trash and dirt. Children were allowed to walk barefoot in the classroom.
2. The floors of the Pre-K classroom were littered with pieces of paper/trash, dirt and mulch; the floor area around the exit to outside was covered in dirt and mulch.
3. The carpeted areas in the Pre-K classroom were littered with dirt and various debris/trash; the carpets appeared to have not been vacuumed. The children were observed sitting on these carpets.
4. The toilet in the restroom of the 2 ?-3 year old classroom had dried feces around the inside of the toilet.
5. The floors of the restroom in the Pre-K classes were littered with various debris/trash and dirt. There was a dirty/used clear plastic cup laying in the floor of the restroom.

Plan of Correction: The center will be cleaned. The staff will be instructed to clean their classrooms.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-290-A-3
Description: Based on observation and discussion with staff, the center failed to ensure that in areas used by children of preschool age electrical outlets shall have protective covers.

Evidence: There were two uncovered electrical outlets in the House Keeping play area of the 2-2 ? year old classroom.

Plan of Correction: The outlets were covered during the inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-G
Description: Based on observation and discussion with staff, the center failed to ensure that when food is brought from home it shall be clearly dated and labeled in a way that identifies the owner.

Evidence: There was Paw Patrol lunchbox and individual bottle of apple juice in the cubbies of the Pre-K Classroom that were not clearly dated or labeled to identify the owner.

Plan of Correction: Food from home will be labeled and dated.
