An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted with the director beginning at 10:00 AM and ending at 2:02 PM. There were 96 children, ages 3 months through 5 years old, in the care of 20 staff members. The children were observed playing with manipulatives, learning about money, and during recess. Ten children's records were reviewed and determined to be complete. Five staff records were reviewed. One medication was reviewed. The first aid kit, flashlight, and weather-band radio were observed and in compliance. The most recent evacuation drill was documented as 2/11/2022. The most recent shelter-in-place was documented 8/8/2021. The most recent fire inspection was dated 8/30/2021. The most health inspection was dated 9/28/2021.

Standard #: 8VAC20-770-60-C-2 Description: Based on a review of staff records, not all of the staff had documentation of central registry findings within 30 days of employment. Evidence Staff A (hire date:1/25/2022), staff B (hire date: 12/31/22 ), staff C (hire date:1/31/2022), and staff D (12/8/2021) did not have have documentation of a central registry finding in their record. Plan of Correction: The director contacted the Office of Background Investigation (OBI) to follow up regarding the central registry findings for those staff. The director will continue to follow up with the OBI regarding the background check.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A Description: Based on observation, not all of the equipment inside the center were maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition. Evidence: In the infant B (Bluejays), toddler (Canaries), and 2's (Sparrow) classroom had debris in the diaper changing area. In the 2's (Sparrow) classroom the toilet seat in the enclosed bathroom was broken. Plan of Correction: The diaper changing area will be cleaned out. The toilet seat will be repaired.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-570-E Description: Based observation, not all of the prepared infant formula in the refrigerator was dated. Evidence: In the infant B (Bluejays) classroom's refrigerator there were two bottles that did not have the date on them. Plan of Correction: The teacher dated the bottles during the inspection.
