Comments:
A renewal inspection was conducted on 4/11/2022. There were 29 children present with 8 staff assigned to their direct supervision. The children were observed playing on the playground, engaging in classroom creative play activities, engaging in active circle time discussions, playing group ball games outside, and taking a walk around the grounds.

The Inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies, and nutrition. A total of 4 children's records and 4 staff records were reviewed.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one area of the center was not maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
In the Under The Sea classroom, there are two areas on the walls that are damaged. The damaged has caused the paint to chip and peel.

Plan of Correction: This will be reported to maintenance for repair.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one potentially hazardous substance was not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
In the Zoo classroom, one container of pre-packaged cleaning wipes was stored on an open shelf. The shelf was at the children's level, and the wipes were not stored in a locked manner.

Plan of Correction: The wipes will be stored in the locking cabinet.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-G
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one potentially hazardous substance that was kept in a substitute container was not labeled to clearly indicate the contents.
Evidence:
In the Zoo classroom, one spray bottle of cleaning solution was not labeled to indicate the contents.

Plan of Correction: The bottle was immediately labeled during the inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-330-B
Description: Based on observations, it was determined the resilient surfacing on the playground does not comply with minimum safety standards.
Evidence:
On the children's playground there is not enough mulch beneath the children's swings. In this area, the mulch has worn down to dirt.

Plan of Correction: I will report this to maintenance and request additional mulch.
