Technical Assistance:
Discussed new requirements that went into effect on 10/13/2021 specifically regarding new required content for new staff orientations and new requirements for written policies.

Annual training requirements will be reviewed during the next inspection.

Discussed use of thumbtacks on wall as potentially hazardous.
Discussed reviewing names of medications to ensure they match exactly with the authorization form.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 4/26/2022. There were 19 children directly supervised by 5 staff. The physical plant, 4 staff records, 3 children?s records, medications, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating playing outdoors, reading with teachers, and playing with staff. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, not all hazardous substances shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. Spray cleaners and disinfectants were observed in an unlocked cabinet in the two's classroom.
2. A floor mop with an inserted bottle of chemical floor cleaner was observed leaning in the corner of the infant room.

Plan of Correction: Violation 1- all frequently used cleaning products will be kept in cabinets with a lock and key

Violation 2- no spray floor cleaners will be stored in the classrooms instead they will be stored in the back storage room under lock and key.
