Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and an in person tour of the program.
A renewal inspection was initiated on May 25, 2022 and concluded on May 26, 2022. There were 19 children present, ranging in ages from 5 to 11, with 2 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 2 staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-40-M
Description: Based on record review and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure the center shall maintain, in a way that is accessible to all staff who work with children, a current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions. This list shall be dated and kept confidential in each room or area where children are present.

Evidence: The Center Director confirmed there was not a current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions. The record for child # 1 included a diagnosed food allergy (peanuts) from a physician. Child #1 was in care during the inspection

Plan of Correction: The Program Coordinator will make sure the staff has an updated version of the list and will post it where staff will see it, May 27, 2022.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A-8
Description: Based on record review and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure there was a written care plan for each child with a diagnosed food allergy, to include instructions from a physician regarding the food to which the child is allergic and the steps to be taken in the event of a suspected or confirmed allergic reaction.

Evidence: The record for child # 1 has a diagnosed food allergy (peanuts) and the record did not include a written care plan, to include instructions from a physician.

Plan of Correction: The Program Coordinator will make sure the staff obtains the allergy action and places it in the record. May 27, 2022.
