The Licensing Inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection in response to a complaint that was received by the licensing office on 6/9/2022.
The Inspector arrived at 601 Holland Lane apartment at 10:03 am, there were no children outside the apartment building. The inspector went to the child care center, parked in the back parking lot. At 10:23 am the first group of children left the child care building, crossing the street and walking down Jamieson Ave. The children were walking using a walking rope, the staff had stop signs they used when crossing the street. At the same time 4 staff pushing 3 buggies were seen leaving the building.
Another group of children and staff were observed leaving the building at 10:37 and 10:58.
The staff and children were observed taking breaks in the shade on Jamieson Ave and then turning left onto Holland Lane where some of the groups stopped at the Alexandria African American Heritage Park to play.
One group was observed walking to the end of Holland Lane, across from 601Holland lane apartments, then turning around heading back to the child care. The staff with the buggies were observed on the sidewalk across from 601 Holland Lane apartments, the staff were blowing bubble, the children reaching their hands out to pop them. After 5 minutes they started walking back to the day care center.
The staff were observed giving children water throughout their walk. The groups returned to the child care center between 11:41 to 11:44 am.
The inspector interviewed the center director about the allegations.
