A complaint inspection was completed in response to a complaint received by this office on 04/29/22. Interview were held with staff relating to allegations of supervision. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of staffing and supervision, and programming.
The inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-340-A Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on interviews and record review, the center did not always ensure the children's care, protection and guidance.
Evidence:
1. Child #1 (age 9) was scratched and bruised during the before-school care by child #2 (age 11).
2. Staff #1 and staff #2 did not protect child #1 from being injured.Plan of Correction: Direct and site director contacted the parents/guardians directly after the incident occurred between child #1 and child #2. Child #2 was suspended for three days and the director explained to parents/guardians that termination from the program will occur if there is future occurrence. Parents/guardians were given phone numbers to reach out for additional service for child #1 and the behaviors issues. Child #1 and child #2 are separated in classrooms as often as possible.
In addition, the director and site director have reviewed schedules and rearranged classrooms. Additional calming, social and emotional daily activities have been offered to the children. Staff are continuing to monitor the schedule and daily activities and will make adjustments as needed. As of 6/3/22 child #1 is no longer enrolled at the facility.
