Comments:
A monitoring inspection was conducted on 09/15/2022. There were a total of 40 children with 10 staff members present. Children were observed during nap time, diapering procedures, tummy/floor time, and bottle feeding. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 4 child records and 2 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were not kept in a locked place.
Evidence:
Sanitizer and Windex were in a lower unlocked cabinet under the diaper station in the older side of the infant classroom.

Plan of Correction: We will review the policies with all the staff on September 20th at the staff meeting.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-A
Description: Based on observation, children's hands were not washed after diapering.
Evidence:
After a diaper change the teacher did not wash the infants hands before returning them to play.

Plan of Correction: We will review the policies at the staff meeting on September 20th with all staff.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-550-A
Description: Based on observation, the emergency preparedness plan was not updated annually.
Evidence:
The current emergency preparedness plan was dated 8/31/2022.

Plan of Correction: We are reviewing the plan now and will have it updated by tomorrow.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-G
Description: Based on observation, food and bottles brought from home did not have the date labeled on them.
Evidence:
1 of 4 bottles checked did not have the date and 1 of 1 baby food checked did not have the date.

Plan of Correction: A supervisor will double check all bottles and food that is coming into the center each day.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-570-B
Description: Based on observation, bottle fed infants who cannot hold their own bottles were not being held while fed.
Evidence:
A baby in the younger side of the infant classroom was in a rocker seat with a bottle propped up for eating. The baby was unable to hold the bottle to feed themselves.

Plan of Correction: I am going in to talk to the infant teachers now.
