Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance was offered related to: Medications and transition from outdoor play to indoors.

Comments:
A monitoring inspection was conducted on 9/7/22 from 4:10 pm to 5:15pm. There were 80 children present, with 6 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 4 children's records, 4 staff records, emergency drill records and medications were reviewed. Children were observed playing outdoors, engaged in small groups activities inside the building and leaving with their parents. Attendance was reviewed.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-245-J
Description: Based on staff interview, record reviews and observations, children with prescribed emergency medication were not in care of staff with the medication administration required.
Evidence:
1. Child # 1 and Child # 2, both have prescribed emergency medication on site.
2. Staff # 1, Staff # 2 and Staff # 3 have the Medication Administration Training (MAT), but their certification does not include the training required for the administration of Child # 1 and Child # 2?s emergency medication.
3. In addition to Child # 1 and child 2?s written authorization form from the physician, Staff # 1 verbally confirmed that their medication was considered to be an emergency medication.

Plan of Correction: Director of operations will coordinate with the certified MAT instructor to enroll staff in the newly added MAT Solu-Cortef medication administration certification.
