An unannounced complaint inspection was conducted in response to a complaint received by the department on October 3, 2022 regarding allegations in the area of staff to children ratios. The inspection was initiated and completed on October 7, 2022. The inspector was on site from approximately 8:25 am until 9:10 am. Interviews with staff were conducted and observations were made. The preponderance of evidence gathered during the investigation supported the allegation of non-compliance with standards or law and therefore was valid. If you have any questions about this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector.

Sharon Curlee, Licensing Inspector
Office of Child Care Health and Safety
Division of Early Childhood Care and Education

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-350-B-4
Complaint related: Yes
Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure the staff to children ratio was maintained
for children three years up to school age eligible.

At approximately 8:30am on October 7, 2022, 11 four year olds were observed with one staff in the pre-K classroom. Staff #1 stated a second staff was scheduled to arrive at 9:00 am. The required staff to children ratio for children three years old up to school age eligible is one staff for every ten children.

Plan of Correction: Per the director: We will ensure staff know to watch rooms with ratios and ask for assistance if they are over and have immediate assistance given to them.
