Technical Assistance:
Ensure that First Aid and CPR courses cover adults and children.

Comments:
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 12/2/2022 at 7:40am and concluded on 12/2/2022 at 8:40am. There were a total of 24 children with 4 staff members present. Children were observed engaged in group activities, playing with Legos, stretching, and going to the gym. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 7 child records and 4 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-40-E
Description: Based on review of medications, the center did not follow it's own medication policy.

Evidence: Epinephrine for Child #2 had expired 10/2022. The center's handbook states that when a medication expires, the parent shall be notified that the medication must be picked up by the parents within 14 days. The center's policy also states that prescription medication must have a valid expiration date.

Plan of Correction: Center will obtain medication for Child #2 that has not expired.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A-8
Description: Based on review of children's medications, the center did not have a written care plan for each child with a diagnosed food allergy, and the center did not have all required medication to follow a written care plan for a child with a diagnosed food allergy.

Evidence #1: Child #1 did not have a written care plan for their diagnosed food allergy.
Evidence #2: Medication listed in Child #2's written care plan for their diagnosed food allergy was not found at the center.

Plan of Correction: Center will obtain all needed medication for Child #2. Center will obtain a written care plan for Child #1.
