Technical Assistance:
Discussed the cleaning supplies in the infant classroom need to be locked immediately once the teachers are no longer using them. Discussion regarding the carpet border in the Elephant classroom. Discussed the menu and the need to include the snack menu. Discussed the placement of staff on the playground. Discussed displaying the violation page and summary page.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 12/13/2022 from 9:35am to 12:11pm. At the time of entrance, 39 children were in care with 10 staff members present. Children were observed during nap time, making deer faces in art nature class, playing with toys, participating in group discussion at circle time and taking turns at the dry erase board drawing the letter A, singing and dancing to prepare for a Holiday video and playing outside on the playground. Interactions between the children and staff were positive. The site was organized and contained an abundant supply of developmentally appropriate materials. A selection of staff and children records, medications, the physical space, evacuation drills, emergency supplies and attendance records were reviewed. Description: Based on review of staff records, the center did not obtain the fingerprint results prior to hiring for one staff member.
1. Staff #1 (Date of hire 9/01/2022) had fingerprint results dated 9/07/2022. The staff member began employment on 9/01/2022 when they completed orientation training.

Plan of Correction: I will ensure we have the results prior to the employee starting.

Standard #: 8VAC20-770-60-C-2
Description: Based on staff record review, the center did not have the central registry finding within 30 days of employment.
1. Staff #1's file (Date of hire 9/01/2022) had documentation that the central registry was sent on 8/26/2022, but did not have the results. The center did not follow up when they did not receive it by the 30th day.

Plan of Correction: I will follow up with them today.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-290-A-3
Description: Based on observation, electrical outlets did not have protective covers on all unused outlets.
1. In the Elephant B classroom, two outlets under the counter near the sink were not covered.

Plan of Correction: We will plug the outlet covers immediately.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-F
Description: Based on review of the menu, the center did not follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and did not include the snacks on the menu for the current one-week period.
1. December 12th, the menu listed chicken cutlet, tofu, rice and fruit. It was missing a fruit or vegetable component.
2. December 30th, the menu listed french toast, sausage pattie, scrambled egg and fruit. It was missing a fruit or vegetable component.
3. The center provides children snacks and the menu did not include any snack items.

Plan of Correction: I will design and post a weekly snack menu and add the vegetables to the lunch menu.
