Its always a good idea to provide additional training to staff regarding forbidden actions and remind all staff that they are mandated reporters.

A complaint was received regarding forbidden actions to include physically striking and roughly handling a child. A review of video recordings, Interviews, and review of recordkeeping were conducted on 12/12/22. Additional interviews were conducted on 12/14/22.
The complaint was determined to be valid. Please submit your plan of correction to include dates of correction to the Office of Child Health and Safety by 12/ 6/22

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-410-1 Complaint related: No Description: Based on interviews and a review of video recordings, it was determined that a staff engaged in the forbidden action of striking and roughly handling a child.
Evidence:
1) On 12/5/22 at approximately 1:27pm, via video recordings, child A could be observed lying on their cot for naptime. Child A, 4 1/2 years of age was lying on their back and appeared to be counting their fingers. Staff A can be observed walking over toward the child, sitting on the table next to the child and proceeded to take their right hand and forcibly and aggressively smack child A on the forehead.
2. On 12/6/2022 at approximately 2:22 pm, staff A can be observed on a video recording walking over toward child A, who was lying on their cot during naptime. Staff A kneels down and positioned themselves face-to-face with child A and with aggression and force grabs the child by the jaw, pulls the child by the jaw toward their face, says something to the child and then aggressively releases the child's jaw.Plan of Correction: Current staff will be trained on what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior and interaction with children in care.
Current staff will be required to review the employee handbook referencing forbidden actions
Current staff will be required to take the 1hr mandated reporters: recognizing and reporting child abuse training.
