Discussed safe storage of chemical sponges.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 8:45am-10:10am. There were 36 children directly supervised by 9 staff. The physical plant, 6 staff and applicant records, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed arriving for the day, participating in Montessori activities, and doing an art project. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. There was an adequate number of staff with current certification in MAT, CPR and First Aid, as well as DHO training. Staff-to-child ratios were in compliance. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
Three cabinets were observed without functional locks and contained spray disinfectant and air freshener.

Plan of Correction: A child proof lock was installed during the inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: Based on record review, the center did not include the duration of the parent's authorization to administer medication.
Evidence:
The authorization for Child 1's medication did not include the duration that the authorization is effective.

Plan of Correction: We will have the parent complete the missing information on the authorization form at pick up.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-M
Description: Based on observation, medication was not kept in a locked place.
Evidence:
In two classrooms medication was observed in high cabinets with non-functioning locks.

Plan of Correction: A child proof lock was installed during the inspection.
