A Subsidy Health and Safety Inspection was conducted on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 9:50am to approximately 12:50pm. There were a total of 42 children in care in the direct care of 11 staff members. During the inspection, the children and staff were observed participating in a variety of activities. Staff were observed having positive interactions with the children. All areas of the facility including classrooms, kitchen, hallways, playgrounds, and bathrooms were inspected. The required postings were reviewed and found to be in compliance. Medication is administered when required and medication and medication authorizations were reviewed. The center is equipped with toys and supplies and items were available to the children. During the inspection, five children's records and five staff records were reviewed.
A licensing inspection was also conducted on this date. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards were reviewed during this supplemental inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-D-1 Description: Based on a review of five staff records and interview, the vendor did not ensure one staff member who works directly with children had current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) appropriate to the ages of children in care.
Evidence: 1) The record for Staff #4, employed on 08/01/22, had a CPR certification that expired on 11/20/22. 2) During interview, management confirmed the CPR certification for Staff #4 was expired.Plan of Correction: The staff member is enrolled in the next class on 12/10/22.
Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-D-2 Description: Based on a review of five staff records and interview, the vendor did not ensure one staff member who works directly with children had current certification in first aid appropriate to the ages of children in care.
Evidence: 1) The record of Staff #4, employed on 08/01/22, had a first aid certification that expired on 11/20/22. 2) During interview, management confirmed the first aid certification for Staff #4 was expired.Plan of Correction: The staff member is enrolled in the next class on 12/10/22.
Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-F Description: Based on a review of five staff records and interview, the vendor did not ensure one staff member who works directly with children completed the department's health and safety update course annually.
Evidence: 1) The record of Staff #1, employed on 10/28/20, did not have documentation of the department's health and safety update course. 2) During interview, management confirmed the staff member did not complete the required training annually.Plan of Correction: The staff member will be required to complete the training within 1 week. All staff members will be reminded to complete the training annually.
