An unannounced Monitoring Inspection took place on 01/09/2023 between the hours of approximately 9:10 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. There were 2 classrooms observed with a total of 19 children with 3 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed engaging in free play and other organized activities. Positive interaction between staff and children were observed. A complete inspection of the physical plant, playground, children and staff records, fire drill log and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. In the middle Pre-Primary classroom, a bottle of a cleaner/bleach solution was found in an unlocked cabinet under the sink.
2. In the Primary classroom bathroom, an air freshener spray was found in an unlocked cabinet under the sink.Plan of Correction: I will remove them today.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-350-B-2 Description: Based on observation, the staff-to-children ratio was not maintained whenever children were in care.
Evidence:
1. Staff #4 was in the toddler classroom with seven children from approximately 9:10 a.m. -9:30 a.m.
2. During this time, Child #4 (age: 20 months) was present in the classroom.
3. The ratio of one teacher to five children was not maintained during this time.Plan of Correction: We will have a teacher come in earlier.
