Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on January 18, 2023. The inspectors arrived at 11:15am and departed at approximately 1:15PM. There were 12 children present and four staff. The Inspectors reviewed seven children?s records and seven staff records. The Inspectors observed staff and children?s interactions throughout the inspection. Children were observed during group activity, free play and lunch. Diapering and handwashing were observed. First aid kits and emergency preparedness documents were observed. The transportation vehicle was observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented. The violation is listed on the violation notice issued to the center and were reviewed with the center?s owner at the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that the areas and equipment of the center be maintained in a safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. The baseboards to the children?s bathroom are peeling off the walls.
2. A plastic toy bin in the school age room was observed cracked and broken posing a pinching and injury hazard to the children in care.
3. Staff #1 confirmed the baseboards were peeling off the walls and the plastic toy bin was cracked.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #1 will put in a work order to get the baseboards fixed in the bathroom. The plastic toy bin was thrown away during the time of the inspection.
