An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted 2/9/2023 from 10:05am-11:10am. There were 16 children directly supervised by 4 staff and all classrooms were in ratio. The physical plant, outdoor playground area, programming, menus, 2 staff records, 5 children?s records, emergency drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. It was reported there were no medications on site at the time of inspection. Children were observed participating in various Montessori activities, coloring, using stamps, reading books, completing puzzles, and playing outside. In addition, diapering and handwashing procedures were also observed and determined to be in compliance. Positive interactions between children and staff were observed during this inspection. There was an abundant supply of age appropriate materials for the children. The center was clean and organized. There was an adequate number of CPR/First Aid, Daily Health Observation, and MAT trained staff on site at the time of inspection. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-240-A Description: Based on record review, the center did not ensure that all staff have completed the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course within 90 calendar days of employment.
Evidence: Staff #2 (Date of Hire: 8/19/19) has not completed the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation coursePlan of Correction: She is no longer in that classroom.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-G Description: Based on observation and staff interview, the center did not ensure that food brought from home was dated.
Evidence: 1. A total of 4 lunchboxes were observed in the Transition room and were not labeled with dates. 2. In the Prechool room, a sampling of lunch boxes were observed and also were not labeled with dates. Staff advised they were not aware of the requirement to date food items brought from home.Plan of Correction: Have parents put dates on lunchboxes.
