8VAC20-790 SUBSIDY REGULATIONS

Comments:
A subsidy health and safety (SHSI) inspection was conducted on February 23, 2023. There were 35 children present with three staff supervising. A licensing inspection was also conducted on this date. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards were reviewed during this supplemental inspection.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-D-1
Description: Based on review of staff records and interview, the center did not ensure all staff who work directly with children obtained current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) appropriate to the ages of children in care within 90 days of employment.

Evidence:

1. The record of staff #1, employed 09/07/2021, did not have documentation of current CPR certification.
2. A member of management stated staff #1 did not have current CPR certification.

Plan of Correction: Per management: We have scheduled a class for the staff to obtain CPR certification.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-D-2
Description: Based on review of staff records and interview, the center did not ensure all staff who work directly with children obtained current certification in first aid appropriate to the ages of children in care within 90 days of employment.

Evidence:

1. The record of staff #1, employed 09/07/2021, did not have documentation of current first aid certification.
2. A member of management stated staff #1 did not have current first aid certification.

Plan of Correction: Per management: We have scheduled a class for the staff to obtain first aid certification.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-F
Description: Based on review of staff records, the center did not ensure staff obtained in addition to preservice and orientation training, at least 16 hours of training to include the department?s health and safety update course annually.

Evidence:

1. The record of staff #2, employed 08/30/2019, contained documentation of the department?s health and safety update course dated 05/31/2021. The record did not contain documentation of the health & safety updated course for the 2022 year.
2. he record of staff #3, employed 06/07/2021, contained documentation of the department?s health and safety update course dated 06/27/2021. The record did not contain documentation of the health & safety updated course for the 2022 year

Plan of Correction: Per management: Going forward we will ensure staff complete the health and safety updated training every year.
