22.1 EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today, April 11, 2023 to determine the centers compliance with licensing standards. The licensing inspector was on site from approximately 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. The Director assisted with the inspection. There were 17 children present, ranging in ages from three years to five years, with three staff supervising. Children were observed having lunch, playing outside and listening to a story followed by singing songs. Dismissal procedures were also observed. Staff interacted with children in a positive manner. The inspector reviewed compliance
in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of three child records and three staff records were reviewed. The inspector interacted with staff and children in care.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
The licensee is required to send documentation to the licensing inspector that the background checks have been requested no later than 10 days following this notification dated 04/12/2023.

Standard #: 22.1-289.035-A Description: Based on review of three staff records and interview, the center did not ensure one staff obtained background checks every five years.
Evidence:
1. The record for staff #2 (employed 09/08/2015) contained the results of a fingerprint national criminal record check dated 03/01/2018, exceeding five years.
2. Staff #2 was observed working during the inspection.
3. The director confirmed a request to update the fingerprint national criminal record check had not yet been requested.Plan of Correction: Per the Director: We will request the updated fingerprint check by tomorrow.
