An initial inspection was conducted today. No children are in care, thus those standards regarding the care and supervision of children were not reviewed. Written parent and staff policies were reviewed. The physical plant was inspected. The playground space behind the facility was inspected. Two staff records were reviewed. Any areas of standards related to direct service that were not determined during the initial inspection will be determined at the first unannounced inspection following the issuance of a license. All future inspections will be unannounced. The first unannounced inspection will be conducted within 60 days from the date the license is issued. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A Description: Based on observation and interview it was determined the center did not ensure that all areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. In room 1 there was:
-peeling paint
-wet or peeling/cracked plaster on the walls
-A soft spot in the raised landing
-Two recessed areas approximately 12x8x8 in the raised landing
2. In room 2 there was:
-A broken register cover
-A missing electrical outlet cover
-White electrical panel cover was not secured
3. In room 3 and the adjoining restroom there was:
-1/4" gap between the electrical outlet and the cover in the rest room
-Bubbling/peeling vinyl flooring in the restroom
-1/4"gap between the electrical outlet and the cover in the classroom
4. Room 4 is currently being utilized for storage but will be required to be cleared before used for childcare.
5. In room 5 there was:
-Frayed carpet
-The transition strip at the entrance to class was not secure
6. The refrigerator and microwave in the foyer was not leveled or anchored and rocked when touched.
7. Director confirmed that these issues were present during this inspection.Plan of Correction: Director will ensure all repairs are completed.
