Comments:
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 5/18/23 and concluded on 5/18/23. There were 79 children present with 12 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. The inspection started at 9:15am and concluded at 10:45am.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on classroom observations the facility failed to ensure that areas were maintained in a safe way as required.

Evidence:
In the preschool classroom, the bathroom had standing water on the floor under and around the sink area. This could pose a slipping risk to the children.
Also, the painted floor was chipping and causing a large area of the concrete to be exposed which could pose a risk to the children.

Plan of Correction: The area will be reviewed by maintenance and fixed to ensure compliance and safety.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on classroom observations the facility failed to ensure that hazardous substances were kept locked as required.

Evidence:
In the toddler and the 2's classroom the cabinet above the sink that is used to store the cleaning products was unlocked at the time of inspection and the staff were not actively using any of the products.

Plan of Correction: Staff will be reminded to keep cabinets locked at all times. If the locking mechanism is broken, staff are to inform management immediately so that maintenance can be notified and the lock replaced.
