A monitoring inspection was conducted on May 26, 2023 with the center director and staff. There were 31 children present, ranging in age from 2 years to 12 years, with 4 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 3 staff records were reviewed. The children were waking from rest, eating afternoon snack, and playing outdoors.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-B Description: Based on observation and staff interview, the facility failed to ensured that the diaper changing area is equipped with a leakproof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot-operated or used in such a way that neither the staff member's hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal. Evidence: The diaper disposal trashcan in the bathroom was not equipped with a lid. Staff acknowledged that there was no lid on the trashcan where diapers were disposed. Plan of Correction: Diapers will not be disposed of in an open trash can.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-B Description: Based on review of two prescription medications, the facility failed to have written authorization from the parent and the child?s physician to administer medication. Evidence: There was no written parent or physician authorization to administer one prescription medication to one child. Staff confirmed that Child A did not have a completed medication authorization on file. Plan of Correction: The medication authorization will be obtained from the parent or the medication will be sent home.
