Comments:
An unannounced on-site monitoring inspection was conducted on 06/14/2023. There were 203 children, ages 3 months-12 years, and 25 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector observed the following: free choice activities, large motor play outside, lunch and nap time. A total of 5 children?s records and 5 staff records, were reviewed. The inspector discussed the following with staff: attendance requirements and staff sitting with children during lunch. The inspector arrived at 10: 51 AM and departed at 2:00 PM.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all chemicals were locked using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:

1.In the entry way of the center, there were four containers of cleaning chemicals that were unlocked and accessible to the children.
2.In the two infant rooms, there was a spray can of Febreze sitting on the soap dispenser that was unlocked.

Plan of Correction: During the inspection the chemicals were locked and staff will be reminded.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-A
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that children?s hands were washed with soap and running water or use disposable wipes before and after eating meals and snacks.

Evidence:
1.Observed in the young infant room, two infants that were fed lunch did not have their hands washed with running water or a disposable wipe before being placed on a cot.

Plan of Correction: Center will be reminded of the handwashing policy with infants.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all diapering standards were met.

Evidence:

Observed in the young infant room, the disposal container did not allow for a staff person?s hand or the soiled diaper to touch the exterior surface of the trash can. The foot pedal was not in operation for the lid to open with out touch of a staff person?s hand.

Plan of Correction: A new step trash can will be purchased and staff will be reminded to inform the director of items need to do the job.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-G
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all food items bought from home was labeled with the child?s name and the date.

Evidence:
There was a container of milk in the infant room?s refrigerator that was not labeled to indicate the owner or the date it was bought in.

Plan of Correction: Staff will be remind to verify that all food items brought from home clearly indicate the owners and the date.
