An unannounced monitoring inspection was concluded on July 12, 2023 between the hours of 8:55am and 11:30am. There were a total of 50 children with 9 staff members supervising. Children were observed eating breakfast, engaged in group activities , story time, diapering, and outdoor activities. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. The twos classroom had cleaning materials (bleach, glass cleaner, liquid soap) inside an unlocked cabinet that was located under the sink.Plan of Correction: I've ordered new locks, but I will have the teachers remove the cleaning materials until the cabinet can be locked.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-520-C Description: Based on observation, diaper ointment or cream was not kept inaccessible to children.
Evidence: Various diaper ointments and creams were accessible to children at the changing table in the Two-year-old classroom.Plan of Correction: I've ordered new locks but I will have the teachers move the ointments and creams where it is inaccessible to the children.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-J Description: Based on observation, tables were not sanitized after each use for feeding.
Evidence: Staff #5 (Toddler Classroom) did not sanitize the table after breakfast.Plan of Correction: I will remind the teachers to sanitize before and after feeding children.
