Discussed with the director: out-of-state background checks, labeling of medications and over-the-counter skin products, expiration of over-the-counter skin products

The next anticipated inspection will be the providers renewal inspection. Provider was reminded to have all renewal application documents completed and submitted to the licensing office 45 days prior to expiration for processing. The renewal application is available on the VDOE website.

Comments:
An unannounced Monitoring Inspection took place on 07/20/2023 between the hours of approximately 2:35 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. There were 7 classrooms observed with a total of 91 children with 15 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed participating in Funtastic Fitness (outside vendor), eating snack, listening to stories during circletime, painting and other organized activities. Positive interaction between staff and children were observed. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, medication and emergency procedures was conducted during this inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-520-A
Description: Based on observation, over-the-counter skin products were kept beyond the expiration date of the product.

Evidence:
1. A healing ointment belonging to Child #6 expired in July 2022.
2. An eczema cream belonging to Child #7 expired in April 2023.

Plan of Correction: Had all staff re-check over the counter products. Send home all expired.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-520-C
Description: Based on observation, not all requirements were met for diaper creams.

Evidence: In the Beginners classroom, there were three diaper creams in bins located on the shelf directly above the toilet, accessible to children.

Plan of Correction: All creams are stored out of reach. Retrained staff.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-M
Description: Based on observation, a child was allowed to eat while walking around.

Evidence: Child #8 (age: 20 months) was observed eating a pretzel while walking around in the carpet area of the Toddlers classroom.

Plan of Correction: Retrained staff on children walking with food-everyone must be seated.
