Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 07/27/2023. There were 70 children, ages 4 months- 10 years, 14 staff members providing direct care and supervision and various support staff present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, staff qualifications and trainings, staffing and supervision, physical plant, programs, emergencies and nutrition. The children were observed during arrival, mealtime, outdoor time, teacher directed activities, self-directed activities, and nap. A total of 5 children?s records, 5 staff records, and 1 medication were reviewed. The inspector discussed the following with the provider: meals, new building, linens, and safe sleep. The inspector arrived for the inspection at 8:00 am and departed at 12:30 pm.

The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice to the provider.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-A
Description: Based on observations, the center failed to ensure that children?s hands shall be washed with soap and running water or disposable wipes before and after eating meals or snacks.

Evidence: Children in the Toddler (2) room were observed eating morning snack without washing their hands or using a disposable wipe before eating. Staff 6 confirmed the children did not wash hands or use a disposable wipe.

Plan of Correction: Provider will provide training to staff to ensure the standard is met.
