A complaint inspection was initiated on 8/8/23 and concluded on 8/8/23. There were 65 children present with 11 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of staffing and supervision, medication, and special care and emergencies. The inspection started at 9:18am and concluded at 11:30am.
The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-350-B-2 Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on observations and discussions with staff the center failed to ensure that ratios were met as required.
Evidence:
On the morning of 8/8/23 the inspector observed 11 children, aged 16mths-2yrs, in the care of 2 staff. The required ratio for this grouping of children is 1 staff to 5 children.Plan of Correction: Ratios were corrected during the inspection.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-350-B-3 Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on observations and discussions with staff the center failed to ensure that ratios were met as required.
Evidence:
On the morning of 8/8/23, upon entering the classroom, the inspector observed 13 children aged 2yrs-3yrs with 1 staff. The required ratio was not met for approximately 3 minutes. The required ratio for this age grouping is 1 staff to 8 children.Plan of Correction: Ratios were corrected during the inspection.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-I Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on discussions with staff the center failed to ensure that emergency medications were administered by an appropriately certified staff member as required.
Evidence:
Staff confirmed that an Inhaler and Insulin were being administered, to 2 children, by staff who only have the MAT certification. These staff do not have certification in Emergency MAT as required to administer these type of medications.Plan of Correction: Staff will obtain the required Emergency MAT certification in order to continue to administer emergency medications.
