Technical Assistance:
Discussed and reviewed outdoor play areas as they relate to shady area shall be provided on playgrounds during the months of June, July, and August. (8VAC20-780-330.F)

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was started in the center on August 15, 2023 from 3:05 pm until 4:05 pm and concluded on August 22, 2023. At the time of entrance, 30 children were in care with 2 staff members present. The sample size consisted of 5 children?s records and 2 staff records. Children were observed during free play ot include, cards, art, movies and board games.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-40-L
Description: Based on record review, documentation review and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure to inform all staff who work with children of children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions.

Evidence: Child # 1 has a diagnosed food allergy (eggs) and Staff #2 who was supervising Child #1 was not aware of the food allergy.

Description: Systemic
Based on record review and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure there was a written care plan for each child with a diagnosed food allergy, to include instructions from a physician regarding the food to which the child is allergic and the steps to be taken in the event of a suspected or confirmed allergic reaction.

Evidence: The record for child # 1 has a diagnosed food allergy (eggs) and the record did not include a written care plan, to include instructions from a physician.
