22.1 EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION

A renewal inspection was conducted on September 12, 2023. The inspector was on site from approximately 7:30 am until 9:20 am. The director was present and assisted with the inspection. There were 22 children present upon the inspector?s arrival with three staff supervising. An additional eight children arrived later. Children ranged in ages from five years to eleven years. Children were observed playing a game of uno, constructing houses with magnetic tiles, coloring and building with legos. Later a group of children went to the gym to play soccer. Children also had a morning snack. Dismissal was observed. Four buses arrived and picked up groups of children according to the elementary school.
The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of seven child records and five staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-240-A Description: Based on review of five staff records, the center did not ensure two staff members completed the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course within 90 calendar days of employment.
Evidence:
1. The record of staff #2, employed 09/20/2022, contained documentation of the completion of the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation dated 03/16/2023, exceeding 90 days from the date of employment.
