Technical Assistance:
Provided consultation on standards:
1) 270A: areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Unsafe conditions include chipped or peeling paint and rusting. Ensure that playground equipment is continually monitored for these conditions.
2) 280B: hazardous substances such as cleaning materials shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children; bins with sanitizing solution cannot sit on the countertop, unlocked, to sanitize toys.
3) 330B: where playground equipment is provided, resilient surfacing shall comply with minimum safety standards; a minimum of six inches of mulch is required under and around the school age composite play equipment (fall zone) in order to be considered resilient; ensure that staff are following written playground safety procedures including maintaining the resilient surface.
4) 510E: the center?s procedures for administering medication shall include methods to prevent use of outdated medication; ensure that when medication expires, the medication is returned to the child's family.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 11:15 am - 3:30 pm with the center director. There were 48 children, ranging from four months to four years of age, present with nine staff supervising. Infant care was observed and older children were observed listening to a story, preparing to nap and napping. Five child records and five staff records were reviewed, along with the emergency drill log, written daily attendance, written allergy list, two medications and authorization forms, one allergy care plan, and the annual fire and health inspections.
