Comments:
An unannounced Monitoring inspection was conducted today. A total of 113 children with 21 staff were onsite. Two classrooms were outside at the beginning of the inspection. A small group of children were engaged in a soccer activity provided by an outside vendor. Observation of all 8 occupied classrooms was made. Each room was well maintained. The classroom walls were decorated with a variety of activities, artwork and pictures of children that correlated with the current lesson plan. Family trees were on display that allowed the children to bring family pictures from home to place on the art paper limbs. Table top activities such as sequencing and patterns with plastic shapes kept the children engaged. The transitions from one activity to another went smoothly and the children were familiar with the process. Some classrooms had sensory tables that allowed the children to experience tactile senses. Hand washing was observed as the children transitioned from morning activities to lunch. The children were seated and were served lunch which consisted of chicken, tortillas, cheese and beans with strawberries. A total of 7 children's records, 1 new staff and additional staff certifications/trainings were reviewed. Medication was onsite and some were reviewed and authorizations were complete. This inspection occurred between 10:20am and 1pm. Thank you for your cooperation today. Please email me at: lisa.hudson@doe.virginia.gov with any questions.
