An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted with the director on October 11, 2023, beginning at 9:55am and ending at 11:49am. There were 50 children, ages 13 months through 4 years old, in the direct care of nine staff members. The children were observed preparing to eat lunch by washing hands. Children were also observed playing on the playground. Five children?s records were reviewed and in compliance. Four staff records were reviewed and in compliance. The first aid kit, flashlight, and battery-operated radio were observed and in compliance. The menu, daily attendance, and emergency drill log were reviewed. The most recent evacuation drill was documented as 9/5/23. The most recent shelter-in-place drill was documented as 5/21/23. The most recent lockdown drill was documented as 4/26/23. The health and fire inspections were reviewed and in compliance.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-330-B Description: Based on observation, the facility failed to ensure that where playground equipment is provided, resilient surfacing shall comply with the minimum safety standards. Evidence: There was approximately 3 to 4 inches of resilient surfacing (mulch) in the fall zones on the playground. There should be 6 inches of resilient surfacing (mulch) in the fall zones.
