Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 9:00am until 11:35am. There were 10 children present, ranging in ages from 3yrs to 4yrs, with 2 staff supervising. The inspector observed the children playing with various age-appropriate materials and interacting with staff. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 3 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-P
Description: Based on review of medications, the center did not ensure that when an authorization for a medication expires that the parent is notified to pick up the medication within 14 days or that any medications not picked up within 14 days after medication authorization expiration are disposed of by the center.
Evidence:
Child #4 had two emergency medications on site at the time of the inspection and both had authorizations that expired on 10/17/2023 and were not return to the parent or disposed of within 14 days.
